I piece most quilt backs – it lets me add an extra interesting touch to the quilt and I get to use fabric I have in my stash (usually in smaller pieces) instead of having to wait to order a couple of continuous yards.
This is my usual, oh-so-scientific method:
Instead of measuring, and designing on the design wall, I often end up with the quilt top on the floor (freshly vacuumed to get all those little thread bits up), so I can place fabric from my stash on top. I like being able to sort of see how the two sides of the designs relate to each other.
The big orange blocks are the backing, they’ll be sashed all around in white to bring them up to size with the front. The patchwork between them is the quilt top (the last orange and pink project for a while)
