Spring *sigh*

After a breif moment of warm sun and spring, we’ve retreated back into cold, gray and rainy 5 inches of snow forecast *sigh* At least my pillow looks like spring.

Bee-mates may recognize the design: it’s a variation on one of the blocks my bee is trying out, while I polish them for prime time.

I’ve been particularly bad at generating UFO’s this winter.

Most of them are still decidedly unfinished, but I did get one tiny project off the list: a pair of potholders.

Granted, there’s still a bunch of these blocks half-pieced for a tablerunner, but I’m working on celebrating the small victories tonight.

Finally Finished

I started this mini quilt over the summer (apparently without a blog post)… finished the top in August…  mentioned it again in September… and that was as far as I got.

Armed with an (early) New Year’s resolution to sew more for myself and less out of obligation, I got back to it and finished it this week.

Daydreaming quilt: green and yellow modern mini quilt in kona solids

I’m not sure why I waited so long: I love this little quilt. It’s based on City Fair, for City Quilts by Cherry House, and the sun on the birch leaves outside my old office window. (I’ve moved offices since, but that’s another post for another time). By my count, it’s has ten different Kona solids.  I thought about hand quilting the whole thing with perl cotton (I found a pretty, variegated one in just the right mix of greens and yellows), but it was too much, visually. Instead, I did a few accent rows among the machine cross-hatching.

Series-es

What is the plural of “series”? “Serieses”? “Series” the same as the singular? They both look/sound wrong, but then, I’m typing before the caffeine has fully kicked in on the Monday after a holiday weekend, so whatever the word is, I’m going to proceed. I’ve been doing this more and more lately – making not just one project, but a series of projects from the same set of fabrics.

Pinwheel Trivet

I made a few projects in orange and pink (pillow and quilt) after getting inspired making a custom quilt, and made even more in aqua (pillow, quilt, another pillow and a tablerunner ) and we won’t get into the “watercolors” Now I’m (obviously) onto a group of geometric apple-green prints.

Quilted Potholders

Much as I love quilts, there’s something so satisfying about small projects like this. I made potholders, trivets and pillows. There’s a table runner cut out and waiting for some attention, and another trivet from the last of the scraps.

Pillows..

These are all for the shop, which helps, since  I don’t have to worry about my own home becoming too apple-green with my projects.

Do you ever make multiple projects together? or is each one a distinct process for you?

This quilt is finished. *yay*

I’ll come up with a post with words later, right now my brain is a bit fried (I work at a college, this is the first week of school, all is crazy, I  miss my Labor Day Weekend already) so, here are some pretty pictures.

I finished this little runner a while ago – but just got around to photographing it this weekend.

And had a good time doing it, so pardon the photo-heavy post, if you’re bothered by such things.

The center fabric is “Sparkle all the Way”  – and I love how it blends a motif that’s Christmas-y, but not in your face about it, with a mod style and color scheme.

It’s a simple runner: Simple square in square blocks, paisley backing, striped binding, random straightline quilting.

A finish! This tablerunner has been hanging on the back of my sewing chair for weeks (alot of weeks), just waiting for a few lines of quilting to finish it.

The blocks are extras from making this aqua and white quilt

I cut the big HST’s into hourglass blocks for the table runner, though.

Another finish – actually, this quilt has been finished for a while, but a full time job and a couple of days of gloomy weather have made getting photos tricky. I’ll still have to wait for a sunnier day to get one that shows the quilting well.

Modern handmade pink orange squares quilt by pioneervalleygirl

The patchwork was fun (though it took some figuring to place all those squares so I could assemble them reasonably) and the quilting ended up adding so much to the design.
